Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream Review

I‘ve first discovered Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream 4 years ago when I was trying to find a good moisturiser for the dry weather in the UK. The salesgirl assured me that this was good and that they a bunch of climbers who went up Mount Everest  brought it with them up to protect their skin from the dry and harsh weather.

Marketing gimmick? Maybe. The product is a bit pricey (see prices below), no doubt, but I was ready to give it a try if even Mount Everest climbers use it!

That said, the Ultra Facial Cream is neither thick, stodgy nor oily, unlike some moisturisers which claim to be “ultra-moisturising”, so I do still use it when I am back in sunny Singapore. It glides onto your face and is easily absorbed by your skin with a few light pats of your fingerstips.

While I like the texture, consistency and moisturising abilities of the cream, what does bother me a little is its smell. Although it does not have any fragrance, it is not odourless. Rather, there is a sort of chemical-like smell to it. Fortunately, this is as far as my grouses with Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream goes. It tops the charts in all other aspects!

The moisturising power of this cream is indeed remarkable. I still marvel at how lightweight this cream is and yet how good it is at its job of keeping my skin moisturised. It is a must-have in countries with hard water like the UK, as hard water is very drying.

I now rotate this moisturiser with a few others, which I shall review in due time. But I definitely recommend this moisturiser if you have dry skin or if you just want something more protective but not heavy or oily.

I give this product 4.5/5 stars.

Do note that the Ultra Facial Cream is not the same as the Ultra Facial Moisturiser, which comes in a bottle rather than a tub. The Ultra Facial Moisturiser is a lighter version of the Cream. It’s texture is similar but just more watered down and is probably more suitable for someone with oily skin or for those of us living in tropical climates who prefer a more water-based type of moisturiser.
